There's more than enough locally available wood.
More than ever it's key to craft a new connection to it.

Locally produced and processed wood is a widely valued raw material with ecological, social and economic assets.

The Green Deal - Lokaal hout from the Flemish Government calls together the entire forest and wood column to play these assets by revaluing sustainable production, processing and use of wood in Belgium.

Most of the Belgian lumber is being shipped away, burned or shredded into wood chips. Yet at the same time we import the same types of wood. Due to a lack of infrastructure and logistics we don’t use local opportunities. In Wallonia for example there’s a big wood industry which we don’t use in Flanders. But also in Flemish forests and backyards there’s an abundant source of beautifull wood to work with.

The time is now to take advantage of using resources that can be harvested closeby. At Atelier Scheldeman we believe that we can contribute through Re-Think building processes by looking into the possibilities of building Socio Spatial Structures with Native Timber.

Together with Hout Info Bois & Bois Local We Re-Search, Design & Build
Local Wood Structures in the field of Architectural Interventions.

To offer a ready to use construction product we worked out
the Belgian Lumber Standard. This means we offer multiples of 4cm in hard- & softwood. We sell and design with Oak & Beech / Douglas & Pinewood.
