‘Bounce, interfere’ is a spatial-acoustic installation; a partition played in and with the surrounding architecture. The movement of sound produced by Maika Garnica’s objects, wavers around the architecture of atelier Scheldeman. At set times the performative installation, not unlike an acoustical playground, is activated by Maika Garnica.

For Bounce, interfere, we conceived a strong architectural gesture. The Ellipse, where spatial and acoustical properties are meeting up. Sound waves of Maika Garnica’s ceramic sound objects interfere in two different focal points. Every form and gesture can be seen as an attempt of play. Every curve sets a bouncing area for a soundwave.&#38;nbsp;
Clay in it’s purest form is used as the central aspect to make forms, objects &#38;amp; vibrations thus creating a playgarden for the ears. Curved metal sculptures carrying these objects refer quite literally to this wavy mindset. Built with a minimum of materiality, plasterboard panels are shown as a raw building component. By placing them pragmatically they enhance this experimental sound mold, showing off their acoustical and esthetical qualities. By ‘not building’ 2 sides of the ellipse, the spectator moves around the sculpture to find its way in. These subtle suggestions set visitors even more in motion experiencing the auditive phenomenon inside.

 2 Steelstructures canopy the outlines of the local&#38;nbsp; housing typology in the Ardèche region, France. The wooden volumes underneath contain all the needs for compact living. Based on a caravan floorplan, the indoor - outdoor activities are stretched out towards the veranda. The volumes are build with local Douglas wood following the Bio-Ecological building principes. Collaborations: Haring ( Frank Stabel ), Pilaar ( Arnaud Goossens ), Elias Van Orshaegen, Remi Buscot, Nordine Guemar.

OO cabinet is een modulaire kast ontstaan vanuit een beweeglijke visie op meubel en architectuur.&#38;nbsp;

	
		
		
	
	
		
			
				
					
Het kernidee is een systeem waarbij verticale
profielen worden opgespannen tussen vloer en
plafond. In deze profielen zijn op gelijke hoogtes
perforaties voorzien waarin ronde metalen
staafjes worden geschoven. Hierop rusten op
hun beurt massief houten legplanken.

				
			
		
	



	
		
		
	
	
		
			
				
					
Doorgedreven onderzoek naar materialisatie en
detaillering resulteren in deze zuivere opbouw
van de elementen onderling en bieden de kans
aan de eindgebruiker om de structuur naar
eigen wens in te vullen en te herschikken naar
de noden van morgen.

					
De kaststructuur is te plaatsen voor een wand
of vrijstaand in de ruimte met de mogelijkheid
tot uitbreiding van een bureau.

Een oud garage gebouw werd getransformeerd tot apartementen, waarvan onze klant

zich de bovenste verdieping toe-eigende. Met het lage plafond en de beperkte oppervlakte
moest een sterk concept bedacht worden om een maximaal ruimte-gevoel

te genereren. Een ruimte-opdelend

element dat de ‘natte ruimtes’ bevat, toilet, keuken, badkamer, scheidt de slaapkamer

van de leefruimte. De ‘mekano’ structuur is geconstrueerd met oude serre - elementen,

gevonden op de boerderij van de opdrachtgever. De staalstructuur is opgevuld met multiplex. Naast koffie en boeken kunnen de eigengemaakte hoeden van

de eigenares hierop pronken.Om een maximale demonteerbaarheid door te trekken, worden ook de technieken in
opbouw voorzien. Door een verfijnde materiaalkeuze worden de schoonheid van
water- elektriciteits- en luchtstromen ahw. geëxposeerd.
Een beweegbare ‘bibliotheek’ ladder geeft toegang tot de bovenste schabben van de
kastenwand, en voorziet een verbinding met het dakterras doorheen het daklicht.
A five story parking garage in Brussels was transformed into apartments, of which our client

has purchased the top floor dwelling. We continue the same ideology of re-use for the finishings

and refurnishment of the interior. A space-dividing volume that contains the toilet, a kitchen

and the bathroom, divides the bedroom from the living area. The ‘mekano-like’ structure of this

volume is constructed from an old greenhouse we’ve found at the farm of the owner. This

structure is filled with plywood squares all the same size. Which provides a huge flexibility for
the user. As the customer is a hatmaker, these exposing shelves .

By pushing further this disassemblability, we decided that the whole technical infrastructure

could better run up on the wall. As constructed in old stables, and to expose the beauty of pure
water/air and electricity tubes.

A movable ladder provides access to the top shelves of the cabinets, and alaso allows the inhabitant
s to ente the roof terrace through the skylight.

modil # 1 en # 2 zijn centrale multifunctionele ontmoetingsruimtes in de blikfabriek te Hoboken. Als overkoepelende structuren scheppen ze ruimte voor presentaties, bijeenkomsten en evenementen. Door de lichte constructie met vrij grondplan ontstaat een architectuur zonder inhoud. Oneindig adaptief voor wisselende invullingen. 

De zoektocht naar lichte constructies leidde tot het gebruik van bouwprincipes uit de serrebouw. Waar grote overspanningen met minimaal materiaalgebruik de belangrijkste ontwerpparameters zijn. Demontabele verbindingen zorgen voor een snelle en eenvoudige assemblage, waardoor een landbouwer snel kan anticiperen op seizoens- en gewaswisselingen. Dankzij dit systeem circuleren knooppunten, verbindingsstukken én ganse staalconstructies doorheen het jaar van boer tot boer. 

Deze principes zijn zowel ecologisch als economisch interessant om op te pikken binnen een hedendaagse architecturale context, te verfijnen en toe te passen in de blikfabriek. Door de pleinvrees van de grote fabriekshallen was er nood aan een kleiner omsloten volume dat doorheen het jaar ingezet kan worden voor tal van activiteiten. Hoe en waar de constructie kon worden geplaatst bleef echter steeds een heikel punt. Terugblikkend naar de mobiliteit van het systeem ontstond het idee om 2 aparte boogloodsen op wielen te plaatsen. Tijdens de levensduur van de blikfabriek zullen de 2 loodsen zich door de fabriekshallen verplaatsen en aaneengeschakeld, los van elkaar of gespiegeld evenementen huisvesten. Na dit traject kan elke module tot elk koppelstuk afzonderlijk opnieuw worden ingezet in tuinbouw of in ander leegstaand stadsweefsel. 

Rosas heeft als eerste gebruik gemaakt van deze ruimtes als omkleedloges. In september wordt de contour van de loodsen uitgesneden in de fabriekswand waarna de boogvormen zich doorheen deze uitsnijding zullen verplaatsen en een tunnelvormige verbinding scheppen tussen 2 fabriekshallen. 

Aansluitend wordt een expo en een lezingenreeks georganiseerd, getiteld, stadsactivering.

Malta fungeert al eeuwenlang als verbinding tussen Europa en Afrika. Van oudsher wordt dit

eiland in de middellandse zee als laatste tussenstop gebruikt. Niet verwonderlijk dat het
geclaimd en versterkt werd door vele grootmachten. Geïnspireerd door de maritieme omgeving,

werd de vorm van ‘het zeil’ geherinterpreteerd. De herinterpretatie uit zich in vorm en

materiaalgebruik. Het gebruik van touw linkt dit paviljoen met het zeilverleden. Evenals op
een zeilboot vereiste de bouw van dit werk een zeer verfijnde coördinatie. De constructie

werd workshopmatig uitgevoerd, in samenwerking met Rémi Buscot en 10 deelnemers.

Het paviljoen schept een uitzonderlijke architecturale ervaring. Overdag creëren zon en wind
een prachtig schaduw-effect, en kijkt men uit op het omliggende water en zeilschepen. ‘s

Nachts, wanneer de structuur wordt opgelicht, ontstaat een magisch, bijna bovennatuurlijk
effect, zichtbaar vanuit de stad en de haven.

Malta functions for centuries as a connection between Europe and Africa. Sailors use it a last stop before
arriving at the promise land. Not surprising that it was claimed and reinforced by many big empires. We
had the chance to build in the old bastions. Inspired by the marine environment, this pavillion reinterpretates
the form of a sail. This reinterpretation occurs in the form but also with the material. As on a boat,
the construction of this pavillion required a sophisticated cooördination. During a 2 week- workshop,

together with Rémi Buscot and 10 participants the constrction was being build.
The pavillion creates an extraordinary architectural experience. Sun and wind create a marvelous
shadow effect during the day. In the night, when the pavillion is lighten, an

almost magical, supernatural effect arises, visible from the city and the harbour.

In 2020 zijn we (Rooilijn Architectuur &#38;amp; Atelier Scheldeman) gestart met ontwerpend onderzoek in opdracht van de Vlaams Bouwmeester&#38;nbsp;gericht op&#38;nbsp;fietsenstalling&#38;nbsp;in de publieke ruimte.&#38;nbsp; Ons doel is een&#38;nbsp;modulair,&#38;nbsp;demonteerbaar&#38;nbsp;en&#38;nbsp;circulair&#38;nbsp;systeem te ontwikkelen dat naast fietsenstalling ook&#38;nbsp;extra functies&#38;nbsp;zoals groenvoorzieningen, zitbanken, en klimrekken kan integreren. Dit alles in samenspraak en co-creatie met bewoners/gebruikers.

Na een succesvol symposium met diverse stakeholders en expositie in deSingel, Antwerpen (2022) hebben we met diverse partners (Open Structures, Belalbatros, Tailorsteel) en maatwerkbedrijf De Brug het concept verder uitgewerkt en getest op ware grootte.

Dit resulteerde in de eerste SamenStalling&#38;nbsp;op het Frans Halsplein te Antwerpen (2024), mede mogelijk gemaakt door de Burgerbegroting van de Stad Antwerpen en in samenwerking met basisschool de Kleine Jacob.

In het project&#38;nbsp;SamenStalling onderzoeken het architectenbureau Rooilijn en Atelier Scheldeman de mogelijkheden voor een modulaire fietsenparking die ook voor andere zaken kan worden gebruikt. De onderzoekers willen constructies maken die functioneel zijn maar ook bijdragen aan het beeld van de publieke ruimte en extra groen toelaten. Naast een fietsenparking voorzien ze plaats voor stedelijk tuinieren, sporten, picknicken… De bedoeling is om ontmoetingen tussen de verschillende gebruikers te bevorderen.

Voor het project zetten we integraal in op een modulair en circulair systeem waarbij  alle componenten oneindig kunnen worden doorgebruikt. Elk element stroom zo afhankelijk van project naar project door zonder verlies in waarde. De toolbox bibliotheek wordt door ingebruikname, observatie en feedback steeds verrijkt.&#38;nbsp;

For Buitenkamers we developped a timber frame construction in order to host people from the closeby neighborhood in a public space. The name ‘buitenkamers’ or ‘outiside chambers’ refers to the literal space or room that enhances citizens. The project is divided in 2 different volumes, with 2 different approaches. One functions as a green-chambre where several trees grow. The other one, named ‘living room’ speaks for itself. An open structure no more than the outlines, subtely changes dimensions space after space. Every ‘room’ has a specific reference to house conditions&#38;nbsp; or habits. Eating, chatting, playing, and so on. The open space in between is free for interpretation and suggests playing. It creates an overview to ‘watch’ at each other. A generallty underestimated urban phenomenon.

Biels ! is een kunstproject waarbij gedurende 1 week vrijwilligers bielzen kwamen stapelen. De fascinatie te bouwen met eenvoudige architecturale componenten leidde tot het gebruik van deze TreinBielzen. Door hen steeds op éénzelfde manier te stapelen onstond een vreemd omsloten donker sculptuur. Het object werd voorts voor een week opengesteld om op te zitten, op te klimmen, naar boten en zonsondergangen te kijken.

Biels ! is an art project where during one week participants stacked railroad beams intuïtively. The fascination to build with basic architectural components led to the use of railroad beams. Placing them on top of eachother next to the river created a weird dark sculpture. The object was during one week used to sit in, climb on, watch boats passing by, see the sun setting in the harbour.
